Sterling Silver Gecko Pin
In the traditional silversmithing village of Celuk, on the island of Bali, jewelry is exquisitely handcrafted, using unique and painstakingly detailed techniques, which are passed down through families for generations. Paradiso has worked closely for two decades with small families in this village. As each piece is entirely hand-fabricated, no two are exactly identical; each is an individual work of art. Each gecko brooch is sterling silver, decorated with a pattern of carefully formed silver balls, which capture the texture and nimble-bodied nature of this much-loved island resident. The pin's real-life counterpart utters a guttural call that sounds like its own name: gec-ko, gec-ko. With each call, the sound gets a little softer, deeper and slower. The Balinese listen carefully, as they believe that if a person hears this call nine times, they will be blessed with extraordinary luck.
